IMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol)
Standard E-mail access protocol by which the your e-mail is stored on a remote server for viewing. Instead of viewing the entire message, you view only the heading and the sender information. This allows you to decide whether to download the e-mail in its entirely. You can also perform operations remotely such as creating and administering folders or mailboxes on the server, including deleting messages. Since IMAP requires you to use your computer as a remote terminal you must be continually online during the time spent on working with your mail.
