Onboard Telephony
Sealink™ provides premium voice quality. As part of the Sealink™ services, a high quality Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) is made available through Marlink’s teleports giving direct access for ship management, business, passengers and crew.
Passenger telephony offers a source for onboard revenue to cruise and ferry operators as passengers have telephone access via the terrestrial public network at competitive international charges. Onboard pricing of the passengers use of telephony is determined at the discretion of the ship operator. Passenger telephony is normally made available from telephones in passenger cabins and telephone booths in common areas.
Marlink’s Intouch@SEA mobile phone service enhances onboard connectivity for passengers and crew through enabling use of personal cell phones at sea, even in remote areas. The service is easy to use and convenient as mobile phones at sea can be used just as they would on land. Users are able to make and receive calls and send and receive SMS messages with ease, meaning you can benefit from enhanced onboard connectivity, improved customer satisfaction and better crew morale with minimal administration and at a low cost.
Internet and Calling Cards
Physical scratch cards or virtual cards are available from Marlink and can be sold by an authorized purchase point on board or at shore or distributed as a courtesy to passengers and crew.
Prepaid Talk
Marlink’s calling card service, Prepaid Talk utilizes the vessel’s existing bandwidth for communications between the vessel and the teleport. At the teleport the telephone call will be routed into the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). Costs associated with calls in the PSTN will be deducted from the Prepaid Talk account.
Calls are charged on a 'units per minute' basis, where the amount of units per minute varies in accordance with the destination the user is calling. Marlink has a published list of the number of units charged per minute for calling each destination worldwide. Calls will automatically disconnect once all units on the card have been used.
Access to the on-board Prepaid Talk service is managed with a Personal Identification Number (PIN) code. The PIN code is either printed on physical scratch cards or distributed electronically by email as virtual cards. Each physical Prepaid Talk card is preloaded with 10, 20, 50 or 100 units. The virtual and the personal crew cards may be ordered with a larger amount of units if desired (in packages of 10 cards).
Prepaid Surf
Marlink’s Internet card service, Prepaid Surf offers you a way to provide Internet access to passengers and includes the hardware needed for the vessel to get full control of passenger access to the Internet.
Marlink can install a given number of wireless Access Points (APs) on board according to your wishes and users can use PCs or laptops with wireless network cards to access the service.
As part of the service, Marlink installs an IP router on board that distributes a login page as soon as a web browser is activated. This IP router also handles the authentication of the Prepaid Surf cards. Access to the Prepaid Surf service is managed with a username and password. The username and password is either printed on physical scratch cards or distributed electronically by email as virtual cards.
Business Tools
An additional revenue opportunity is presented through direct and secure lines to banking partner and credit card companies available through Marlink’s priority VSAT service, Sealink™. A direct line from the vessel to the credit card company enables immediate card payments onboard. Furthermore, many credit card companies offer a reduced credit card fee based on a positive validation of the credit card. With large revenues being generated from credit cards payments this typical 1-2% reduction in the credit card fee represents a significant return.
ATMs onboard can also be supplied through Sealink™ since a direct phone line is set up to a banking partner providing passengers fast and easy withdrawals of local currency to spend onboard or at upcoming ports.
Marlink’s Customer Portals give you full control of your costs through online monitoring tools that enable you to monitor your bandwidth utilization, uptime, availability and latency reports from the convenience of your computer by logging on through our website. Available for both VSAT and MSS services, customers can access valuable data and reports, to plan their future communication needs.
