A digital system designed to supersede the now defunct Inmarsat A, Inmarsat B offers greater capacity, higher quality and lower prices than its predecessor
Applications
Inmarsat B offers digital satellite communications for: Voice, Telex, Fax (9.6 kbit/s), Data (9.6 kbit/s), Duplex High Speed Data, (56/64 kbit/s), Shore to Mobile High Speed Data and Internet access
The digital system offers lower costs for users due to more effective utilization of satellite capacity. In contrast with Inmarsat A, the Inmarsat B system has separate channels for voice, telex, fax and data.
High Speed Data (HSD) and Duplex High Speed Data (DHSD)
Inmarsat B DHSD (56/64 kbit/s) is ideal for high volume data communication users such as seismic surveyors, research vessels and oil and gas exploration craft. High Speed Data is highly effective for transfer of compressed and slow-scan video — of vital importance when you need on-air technical or telemedical assistance.
Coverage Marlink offers HSD via Inmarsat B in all ocean regions.
